Explore Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4,566 meters, in the Arusha Region of northeastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied with spectacular and picturesque landscapes in three distinct areas. In the west, the Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River; the peak of Mount Meru lies on its rim. Arusha National Park lies on a 300-kilometer axis of Africa’s most famous national parks, running from Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in the west to Kilimanjaro National Park in the east.
Besides residing Tanzania’s second-highest mountain, Arusha National Park has a diversity of wildlife, though visitors should not expect the same extraordinary game-viewing experience they find in other national parks of Tanzania’s northern circuit, like; Serengeti National Park. Despite the small size of the park, common animals include; giraffes, Cape buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, the black-and-white Colobus monkeys, the blue monkeys, flamingoes, elephants, bushbucks, and many other African animals.
Best Time to Visit
Undoubtedly, the best time to visit Arusha National Park is between June to October. During this time, the animals are much easier to spot as the vegetation isn’t as thick and dense. However, because it is wintertime in Tanzania, you will want to make sure you bring some warm layers to wear in the mornings and evenings.
The wet season in Tanzania is between March and May, which means the parks are usually at their lushest. However, this is the low time of year for tourism, which means that you will typically have to deal with far fewer other tourists while inside the park.
