The pristine Serengeti National Park nestles in the center of northern Tanzania. Encompassing vast plains of the savannah, rolling hills, and a network of rivers, the Serengeti offers sanctuary to an abundance of wildlife, affording incredible safari opportunities all year round. The Serengeti is renowned for the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth - the annual migration when over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with many zebra and gazelle, move in a circular pattern between Tanzania and Kenya in search of new pastures brought to life by the rain. Crossing the Grumeti River is part of their journey and is a nail-biting spectacle as herds of distressed wildebeest and zebra attempt to cross the crocodile-infested waters. The Serengeti is a great place to visit during the calving season when gorgeous newborn babies can be seen, as well as a large number of big cats.
Best Time to Visit
Usually, in East Africa, the best time to safari is always from July to October which marks the dry winter months. In these months, days are usually around 77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit and nights can be chilly.
Late June to October is the best time to visit Serengeti National Park for the best wildlife viewing, including the spectacular wildebeest migration. The timing of the migration varies from year to year – your best chance of seeing it is during June and July. On the other hand, the wildebeest calving season is from late January to February. The Serengeti National park majorly experiences two seasons, the dry season lasts from June to October, and the wet season from November to May.
